PLYC is a registered non-profit organization that seeks to educate, encourage, and empower high school students. Throughout the year, we aim to host a variety of events by upholding the principles of social justice, entrepreneurship and community involvement. Council members will learn tangible, transferable skills necessary for the 21st century, develop critical leadership skills as well as work with other passionate individuals.
PLYC’s vision is to develop the intersection of social justice, entrepreneurship and community involvement in the lives of high school students through education, encouragement and empowerment.
As high school students continue to grow and learn about the world around them, it is important to educate them in areas that conventional teaching may not be able to help them with: social justice, entrepreneurship and community involvement. Through PLYC, high school students can learn more about these areas and be aware of these issues.
Through a larger social media presence, word of mouth and outreach within schools, PLYC encourages high school students to become more involved with these issues whether it be through a PLYC event or on their own. As high school students navigate their way, PLYC aims to encourage them on.
Empowerment for PLYC council members as well as PLYC event volunteers and attendees come with giving them the knowledge and 21st century skills to not only use them in a PLYC setting but also on their own within the community, whether that be on a local, regional, national or international level. PLYC serves as a stepping stone for these students to achieve.
Our team consists of students from numerous high schools across York Region in Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Thornhill.
